Posted By Haggerty, Goldberg, Schleifer & Kupersmith, P.C.

On Sunday, April 3, an Amtrak traveling from New York to Savannah, Georgia
crashed into a backhoe, a large piece of heavy machinery, just south of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The vehicle was carrying 341 passengers. As
a result, two persons were killed and at least 30 persons suffered injuries.

Ryan Frigo, a National Transportation Safety Board official who is responsible
for the crash investigation, states that the NTSB is working diligently
to gather facts regarding the collision.
Currently, he and his team are investigating the following factors:

  • Mechanical issues
  • Operations
  • The track
  • Human performance
  • Survival factors

As of now, the team has collected forward-facing video footage, inward-facing
video footage, and evidence from data. This information along with any
other information that is to be gathered from the investigation is to
be compiled and sent to the NTSB’s laboratory in Washington, D.C.

One of Three Amtrak Accidents on Sunday, April 3

Shockingly, the collision south of Philadelphia was only the first of three
Amtrak crashes that occurred that Sunday. According to news reports, these
three accidents all occurred within a 12-hour window. In Bucks County,
Pennsylvania, a trespasser was hit and killed by an Amtrak that evening.
In Somonauk, a small town located in Illinois, a 28-year-old sustained
fatal injuries when they were struck by a vehicle that was hit by an Amtrak train.
